چکیده
In performance testing of ATM switches and network of switches a variety of connection configurations is needed. In most of the cases, these configurations require one traffic generator and/or analyzer for each switch port. Since this equipment is rather expensive, it is desirable to define scalable configurations that can be used with a limited number of generators. In this paper we present a methodology for the implementation of scalable connection configurations. The methodology is simple and offers a general solution to generate scalable connection configurations. Several examples of scalable configurations illustrate the methodology. The application of this methodology helps users to repeat easily performance tests under the same traffic load conditions.

متن کاملCall performance studies on the ATM forum UNI signalling implementations
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) is widely accepted as the transfer mode for Broadband Integrated Services Digital Networks. Since ATM networks provide connection-oriented services, signalling is an essential component of these networks. The performance of the signalling system is crucial in determining the scalability of the network. Call performance measurements on two different ATM switches ...
متن کاملIP Forwarding Alternatives in Cell Switched Optical Networks
Optical switching will enable core Internet packet switching to scale with future transmission rate increases. Currently proposed optical ATM switches do not allow packet reassembly, which is necessary for packet level forwarding. This results in the requirement to create end to end ATM virtual connections for flows even if they contain only one packet. In electronically switched networks MPOA ...
متن کاملAn accurate performance model of shared buffer ATM switches under hot spot traffic
Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switches based on shared buffering are known to have better performance and buffer utilization than input or output queued switches. Shared buffer switches do not suffer from head of line blocking which is a problem in simple input buffering. Shared buffer switches have previously been studied under uniform and unbalanced traffic patterns. However, due to the co...
متن کاملExtending ATM Networks for Efficient Reliable Multicast
One of the important features of ATM networks is their ability to support multicast communications. This facilitates the efficient distribution of multimedia information streams (such as audio and video) to large groups of receivers (potentially millions). Because ATM networks do not provide reliable delivery mechanisms, it is up to end systems to provide end-to-end reliability where it is need...
